Unique garden world

Trauttmansdorff Castle Gardens

The gardens are spread across an area of 12 hectares with an altitude difference of 100 metres. You’ll find 80 garden landscapes with flowers from all around the world.

The winding paths lead you through 4 garden worlds and past terraces and bubbling streams. There are blooming highlights all year round.

Place of pilgrimage

Maria Weißenstein

The Maria Weißenstein place of pilgrimage dates back to the year 1553, when the Virgin Mary appeared before Leonard Weißensteiner to heal his illness. As a thank you, she asked him to build a chapel where believers could ask her for help.

Inside the church is a wonderful Baroque altar.

Experience South Tyrolean culture

The state capital of Bolzano is just 20 minutes by car from the Hotel Obereggen. With its many shops in the historic arcades, the fruit market and a variety of cafés and small wine shops it is definitely worth a visit.

Cultural life between the mountain and valley is as varied and diverse as the landscape. The many museums, castles and strongholds are ideal places for discovery tours.

The Bolzano arcades

The arcades were built by the Trento bishops in the 12th century to boost trade in Bolzano, which was still small at the time. The arcades run through the Bolzano old town from east to west and are still the main attraction in the state capital. They are architecturally unique and form the most unusual and yet traditional shopping mile in South Tyrol.

A popular meeting point

When you stroll through the Bolzano arcades, you’ll simply be astonished. The romantic twisting side streets create a special atmosphere. Elegant boutiques and pretty shops, cafés, delicatessens and pleasant bars – daily life takes place right here.

Abbey winery

The winery at Neustift Abbey is one of the oldest in the world. Tradition und Lage sowie das Streben nach höchster Qualität spiegeln sich in den Neustifter Weinen wider. The abbey’s best Lagrein grows around the monastery. Old, native grape varieties are being revived here. Tradition and location as well as the pursuit of the highest quality are reflected in the Neustift wines.

The cool temperatures and easy moraine rubble soil of the Eisack Valley are the ideal conditions for cultivating white wine. The warm temperatures and porphyry soils in the vineyards acquired in Bolzano, on the other hand, are ideal for cultivating red wine.

Symbol of the municipality

Karneid Castle

Karneid Castle is located to the east of Bolzano and was built in the 13th century. Today, it is one of the loveliest and best-maintained castles in South Tyrol.

„Tyrol Castle“ state museum

State museum for culture and state history

Tyrol Castle

Tyrol Castle is the ancestral seat of the counts of Tyrol. The castle gave the state of Tyrol its name. The sovereigns in Tyrol Castle represented the eponymous state for almost one millennium until, in the 15th century, political administration was moved to Innsbruck with its more favourable location from a transport perspective.

Today, an interactive course takes you through the castle and illustrates milestones in state and art history. The archaeological museum in the castle provides a good overview of the first settlements in the alpine region from the 7th century B.C.

The circular wall, built around 1100, is one of the oldest, still maintained castle walls. The chapel with frescos from the 13th century is home to the oldest Tyrolean glass paintings and an impressive wood-carved crucifixion group from the 14th century.
